Registering for spring classes

Hello bloggers, as we can all notice the fall semester is coming to an end now.  We all made it past the first weeks of college and now it is around the time that we should start working on our spring semester schedule.  Luckily, for fall my counselor made my schedule for me so I did not have to go through a lot of hassle.  From what I hear making your schedule is not the easiest thing to do.  It can become very complicated trying to find the right class and also get it at the certain days and time you want to take it.  So I went on YouTube and found this video that’s includes certain tips that I think will make the process much easier.
In this video the girl mentioned rate my professor which I think is her best advice because sometimes the comments can be right on target.  Trust me I looked up some of my professors that I am taking now and the comments said about them are so true.  She also mentioned that night classes are a good thing; personally I do not think they are though.  I guess this is because I already took a night class that was three hours long and I could never stay awake the whole time.  I think it all depends what type of person you are though.  If you like to sleep in late then I recommended afternoon classes but if you are a morning person then you should take morning classes.  It is all to you and what you think fits your schedule.  The most important thing you should do before you start choosing your classes is visit your academic advisor.  Especially if you are a freshman which I think most of us are, because if you do not a hold will be put on your account and you will not be able to register for classes at all.  It is also important though because it will help you choose your classes, make sure you are taking the right classes that you need and do not waste your time in classes you do not need unless you are taking them for fun.

Freshman football players

Freshman football players are my topic for this blog.  Honestly I do not know much about football but today I came across an article on a freshman football player for the Florida Gators who has been dismissed from the team by his coach Urban Meyer.  It is said that he was dismissed for a violation he did and his coach says there is no chance he will return to the team.  I think incidents like this are crazy a lot of people believe football players get lots of special privileges.  Others also believe it is not fair for them to attend schools like the University of Florida, University of Miami, and other universities in general just because they are good at football.  What they fail to realize is that a lot is expected from them though, they have to attend tutoring and all their football practices.  They also have to deal with all the fake fans who love them when they are winning and trash them when they lose.  Of course I’m not saying people should feel sorry for them though, some football players are extremely cocky but not all of them.  Some of them are humble and also smart so people should not dislike the fact that they got the opportunity to do something with their life and realize that most of these boys did come from different backgrounds so it is going to be hard to them to adjust to the way others want them to act.  Recently two of my classmates were dismissed from Marshall University for doing something really stupid.  What they did was not right at all but afterwards the local people were trashing them very badly, saying things such as “this is what happens when you give these gangsters an opportunity in their life.”  Many other harsh comments were made also by the locals and people from back home too.  It is disappointed to hear what they did but you cannot expect a person to change all of a sudden it takes time.   These football coaches going out recruiting students need to realize what type of young man they are dealing with and these young man need to realize that it is vital to grow up also and cherish the opportunity they are getting.

Relationships

For this week I honestly did know what to write my blog on, so I went on Google and entered college freshman came across this very important interesting topic:   freshman relationships.  I am not in a relationship myself and I have to admit at times it gets lonely to not have a boyfriend.  But I think it is better to be single then be in a relationship that is not healthy especially in during your first year in college.  Sometimes the stress of having a boyfriend or girlfriend is too much when you are already stressing about your school work.  Being in a relationship can also be time consuming, even to those long distance couples.  Those hours spent on oovoo or Skype can also take up a lot of your time.  To make things worse there will always be the nagging boyfriend or girlfriend with the trust problems that will just add more stress to your daily life. I am not saying all relationships are like this though they are some healthy ones.  It is always good to have somebody by your side when you need somebody to just listen or comfort you after a bad test or any other bad situation you might be in.  In order to be in one of these healthy relationships though you must trust your partner especially if the relationship is long distance.  It will also help to be sure about the feelings you have for your partner if you know you or just in a relationship for the fun it’s better to be single.  There is lots of fun you can have when you are a single person also.  If you are sure it is love then make sure the feeling is mutual do not waste your time with somebody who does not love you back.  We are young so therefore we still have time to find the right one.  So just remember if you are in a relationship make sure it is a healthy one if it is not I think it is time to move on J

Freshman 15

Gaining weight is already a big stress on young girls, especially those entering college and now people have even named this stressing incident as the freshman 15.  The freshman 15 is a theory that freshman will gain 15 pounds in their freshman year.  15 pounds is a lot of weight to gain in such short amount of time for some people.  For others this incident is not as stressing because they want to gain weight.  But for those who do not want to gain anymore weight the thought of this theory coming true is hard to deal with.  Like myself for example I am a small girl and gaining weight is not such a big problem for me but lately I seem to be gaining weight in all the wrong places and I hate it…most girls should know what I am talking about.  I would think that since I walk a lot around campus it would be hard to gain weight but walking around does not seem to be helping me out.  I am guessing it is because the poor food choices we have in our dining areas it is so hard for me to get full in one meal so I find myself eating all day.  Even though it is little bits of food at a time I do not think this is healthy, if the food choices were better I think my situation would be better.  I also wished I had more inspiration to go to the gym and actually work out.  When I see people jogging around campus or heading to the gym I say to myself man how can they have the energy to do these things.  I guess this is my fault though I need to find the energy within myself to go to the gym and work out for my own good.  I know many other girls feel the same way I feel so hopefully we can start visiting the gym together and have a work out session.  One thing I want girls to remember though all types are beautiful so do not stress about Freshman 15.  I have a problem with gaining weight but that’s just me if you are okay with your body then that’s great J

Do not dropout!

Many college freshman drop out in their  first year, statistics have proven this.  It can be for many reasons, such as stress, money problems, or just plain lazyness.  I am a college freshman and I understand that the transition between high school to college is a huge change.  Especially for teenagers who are not use to doing so much work , reading and studying.  I am one of those teenagers myself, I high school I did not have to do this much work and I hardly ever had to study things were just so easy for me.  Now that I am in college the situation has changed though, I have to study and read.  At times I know all this work and get stressing and this is why many kids drop out.  Those kids who feel like they are not going to make it through college because of the numerous amount of work, should believe in themselves first of all.  Having confiendence in yourself is very important, think postitive if you made it into an university then you are already above many others.  So you should take this opportunity to better yourself and make the best of it.  Yes, the work is stressing and it can take up a lot of you time, but you can always ask for help to make things eaiser on you.  Also remember to stay focus, the opportunitues  that you can get with a college degree should inspire you to make it through.  Teenagers who are having  money problems should apply for scholarships, they are many out there to help college student because  education is very important.  There are also many job opportunites on campus for students, so students should take advantage of this chance.  My advice for the lazy students is to grow up and realize you are not a child anymore, things are not just going to come to you.  Nowadays the motto is “work hard, play hard.”
Students do not throw away the opportunity to extend your knowledge and stay in college, many will be proud of you.

Using Homecoming Week to your advantage

This week is homecoming week at the University of South Florida and it is also homecoming week at the high school I attended how odd, I guess USF was the perfect match for me lol.  Homecoming week was awesome in high school though so image in college.  I know many freshmen might find it hard to go out and participate in these events though because it is a big change.  It is hard to find your place in a university because it is extremely large.  Being afraid or nervous is not a bad thing though it is natural to be scared to go out and meet new people or find a way to get involved because trust me your not the only one. I was very scared, but I still went out and searched around and found some clubs that I liked.  One club I joined was street team which manages all the events going on in homecoming.   Street team is very fun, I have met many new people and I already got the chance to volunteer at a college event.  Last week we hosted the USF dance marathon in the ballroom which was a pre-homecoming party.  The party was overall a success and lots of fun, tickets to meet Pitbull where even raffled unfortunately I did not win them though. L Yesterday was the homecoming kick-off party where free food was given out and also homecoming shirts which are very cute by the way.  If you were not able to attend the event though, do not feel bad there will be lots of more free stuff given out throughout the week.  Today is the talent show and comedy show featuring DL Hughley in the Sun Dome; I am very excited for this event because DL is extremely funny.   Make sure you guys come out and get a good laughter.  It will be a good way to release all the stress we freshman have built up from all this work, the ball will also be a good stress reliever so if you love to dance come to the ball which is tomorrow in the ballroom.  Thursday is the carnival and Friday is the night parade/after party featuring Pitbull, I will be volunteering at both of these events so come out and have some fun.  Finally, Saturday is the homecoming game where USF will take on the New York Syracuse, come out and support your Bulls in this victory.  As you can see homecoming week is going to be a lot of fun so if you have not participated in anything yet make sure you do this week there will be lots of chances to go out and meet new people.

Bullying 

For this week’s blog, I am going to touch on bullying.  Bullying was definitely childish and inappropriate to do in high school so to still be bullying people in college does not make sense at all.  People need to realize that bullying others is wrong.  Bullying others can cause serious damage, not everybody is emotional stable to take all the harsh criticism that comes along with bullying.  For example, recently a college freshman named Tyler Clementi committed suicide because he was being bullied for being gay.  Tyler was only 18 years old and had recently become a freshman at Flager College in St. Augustine, Florida.   Authorities said he committed suicide after two of his classmates recorded him having sex in his dorm was another gay and broadcast it over the internet.  The embarrassment of the video being out was obviously too much for him to face.  This is why people should really consider others feelings before they say or physically do something to somebody that will be hurtful to them.  This is what we see in this case the boys did not verbally bullying Tyler but they did post the video they recorded of him on the internet which led him to throw himself off a bridge.  It is surprising to see things like this still happen in college, where kids are suppose to mature.  Obviously, these kids were not even though they also made it to college and had something good for them they ruined it with stupidity.   Now Tyler Clementi’s roommate who is also 18 and -another Rutgers student, Molly Wei are being charged with two counts of invasion of privacy and I am pretty sure they are being kicked out of school also.  So at the end of the day when you sit and think about what bullying has caused you can see it is nothing good.  As we can see there are two college freshman in serious trouble and another one who unfortunately is not here with us because of somebody else’s ignorance.  This story is very sad but true; hopefully people realize that bullying is wrong and should not be allowed anywhere or under any circumstances.
